Kim Hoods

Kim joined Blackwood Montagna in July 2026.

She practises in family law, with experience across parenting and care of children matters, family violence, and other complex family law issues. Kim is committed to helping clients navigate difficult and often highly emotional circumstances, providing clear and practical advice and strong advocacy throughout the legal process. She brings over 16 years of experience across the New Zealand justice sector to her clients.

Kim regularly advocates for clients in the Family Court, drawing on a robust background that includes 12 years at the Ministry of Justice in criminal law and youth justice, and tenure as a Community Lawyer specialising in family violence immigration matters. Known for her trauma-informed and whānau-centred approach, Kim provides clear, practical legal advice tailored to each family’s unique situation. She has a broad understanding of the legal, social and personal factors that can impact individuals and families.

Kim takes the time to understand each client’s circumstances and works collaboratively with clients and other professionals to develop practical strategies and achieve positive, sustainable outcomes for families.
