Deborah is both a practising general medical practitioner and a lawyer, a very rare combination that enables her to offer clients clear, practical advice where health and law overlap. Originally from Nottingham, she qualified in medicine in the UK before emigrating to New Zealand. She has lived in Auckland since 2009.
Alongside general practice, Deborah has worked as a Police Medical Officer, Forensic Examiner, Prison Doctor, and Chief Medical Officer in the insurance sector. While continuing her medical work, she completed her law degrees at the University of Auckland focussing on health care, health and disability, accident compensation, care of children, family and criminal law, evidence, criminal procedure and patient rights,
Her enthusiasm for the law led to the completion of two Masters of Law degrees. The first examined family violence with Police families, and the other majored in family and criminal law,
Deborah’s passion is anywhere the law meets medicine, such as in criminal, family, and medico-legal jurisdictions.
She enjoys litigation, and is a confident, calm, efficient and determined advocate. She enjoys the courtroom and strives to argue fiercely for her client when required. Her life skills, maturity and training place her in a niche position to quickly comprehend situations. She also loves technology and embraces the benefits this has brought to both medicine and the law.
In her spare time, Deborah loves knitting and crocheting, having inherited her artistic mother’s love for all things of beauty and colour.
